National Horticultural Therapy Week

National Horticultural Therapy Week 2011!
National Horticultural Therapy Week 2011 will be celebrated from March 20th through March 26th this year, as that is the week in which spring begins! This is a week of professional recognition to our efforts in the promotion of horticultural therapy. In the past AHTA has recruited the networking groups and chapter of AHTA, affiliated HT programs, and members to volunteer in helping us in this effort, both on the national and local level. This year we again ask for this help.
This can be accomplished by...
- Host an event during that week to celebrate HT programming at your program
- Send flyers out to announce how HT works
- Start a new garden in the community with the help of your clients
- Invite a local politician to a garden party with ongoing HT activities
- Create flower arrangements to set out in your offices announcing NHTW
- Host a workshop at a local library on HT activities
- Do a presentation at local spring garden fair on HT
- Put out flyers on HT at area Botanic Gardens
- Plant pansies to spell out NHTW
The list is endless...By hosting such events or activities; it brings great PR to your program as well as to the profession. It is important to take time for this promotion...now more than ever with as the budget cuts continue. It is also important to tell others what you have done to encourage others to join us in this effort! If you have an event/activity PLEASE pass the word by sending information regarding the event to the office of AHTA.
We will be posting a list of all events we receive information for on the AHTA website. I know personally that starting with a simple event one year can lead to others wishing for larger events, the seed planted does grow!
It is important to share with others what we do best. Take the time to celebrate National Horticultural Therapy Week, and share what you do with all of AHTA!
All the best,
Lana Dreyfuss, LCADC, CRC, HTR
President of the American Horticultural Therapy Association
