2021 AHTA/IPPS Virtual Joint Annual Conference Call for Virtual Tour Submissions

Virtual Conference | October 29 - 30, 2021

A request for proposals to present virtual tours at the 2021 American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA)/International People Plant Symposium (IPPS) Joint Annual Conference.

The purpose of this symposium is to provide a forum for researchers, educators and practitioners to continue to discuss, identify, encourage and expand the research used by professional and trade associations to clearly demonstrate the benefits of horticulture in wellness and quality of life. This research facilitates the expansion of programs in diverse areas from urban planning to healthcare.

The Virtual Tours is an AHTA-sponsored event. As such, the designation of “Horticultural Therapy” meets the AHTA Definitions and Positions. In addition to horticultural therapy programs, AHTA welcomes programs that use plants, gardens, and nature as a therapeutic modality to submit a video.

Presenters will be selected from videos submitted in response to this Request for Proposals (RFP) by a peer review panel. Please submit your video and all information requested by July 30, 2021 to [email protected] subject title: Tours.

Online Proposal Submission Guidelines

Please read thoroughly prior to beginning your online submission. This document is intended to be used as a helpful guideline in preparing your RFP.

  • Those submitting videos are required to register for the conference.
  • A program referred to as “horticultural therapy,” must;
    • Have a professionally registered horticultural therapist (HTR) as defined by AHTA, on-site.
    • Have documentation tools that assess program goal outcomes and they must be demonstrated and/or described in the video.
  • A program referred to as “therapeutic horticulture” is not required to have a professionally registered horticultural therapist (HTR) on-site, though the practitioner must have some training in horticultural therapy or therapeutic horticulture.
  • Tours shall be pre-recorded with narration or subtitles in English. The video must be submitted in a YouTube format (see below).
  • Length of tour videos should be determined by the filmmaker. It should be dependent upon relating relevant information in an efficient and concise amount of time. We ask that they be no longer than 30 min.

A well-made video tour does not need to be professionally made. Good quality videos can also be accomplished by using a Smart Phone. If it is not possible to film video at your site, consider linking still shots and narrating over them.

Session Formats:

A video must be sent in a YouTube format. According to YouTube, the best video format is MP4 with H.264 video codec and AAC audio codec. You get a high-quality video and a small file size. However, YouTube also supports the following formats: MOV, MPEG4, AVI, WMV, MPEG PS, FLV, 3GPP and WebM. Power Point presentations may also be utilized. Simply "PLAY" the Power Point Presentation and “RECORD A SCREEN SHARE,” so that the file becomes a video format. There are many editing resources to be found online including YouTube and Screencastomatic: https://screencast-o-matic.com/

Videos can only be accepted via the downloadable Virtual Tour Submission Form. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] subject title: tours.
