Request for Proposals - AHTA Annual Conference

Community Connections Through Horticultural Therapy
September 8-9, 2017

As horticultural therapists and allied professionals, we understand the importance of creating communities. It’s what we do, and our training and skills position us to do it well. We appreciate the importance of connecting the communities we create with other communities. It requires cooperation, sharing knowledge and experiences, and communicating with people from diverse, related professions. Learning how to create and foster connections is the goal of this year’s AHTA conference in the lakeside city of Burlington, Vermont.

In this spirit, we are reaching out to solicit presentations that address the following objectives:

  • Collaborating and partnering with allied health professionals and others to create comprehensive treatment approaches and wellness interventions
  • Partnering and programming with volunteers and community organizations to enhance horticultural therapy programs
  • Designing therapeutic gardens that connect horticultural therapy participants to the broader community
  • Creating, maintaining, and facilitating therapeutic programs for underserved populations and communities
  • Programming for individuals of all abilities focusing on physical, cognitive, and behavioral goal in support of community integration
  • Marketing/promoting horticultural therapy practices and programs to influence public awareness
  • Creating local food programs involving horticultural therapy and community organizations
  • Presenting published research to include collaboration, methodology, and results
