Somerset Mental Health Center Kicks off “Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies”

Anew Wellness specializing in innovative approaches to mental health, is excited to announce Summer of Wellness Program, “Health Minds, Healthy Bodies”, featuring Horticultural Therapy with Final Touch Plantscaping, LLC. Anew Wellness is committed to innovative approaches to create a path to wellness for individuals and families experiencing mental and behavioral challenges for adults and adolescents. A Kick-off reception will be held Tuesday June 27th, 1:00 to 3:00, 270 Davidson Avenue, Somerset, featuring special guests New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher and Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman R-16th District.

Congressman Leonard Lance NJ-7 said, “Mental health care is of great importance to many families in Somerset County. I’m very pleased to see Anew Wellness and partners like Final Touch Plantscaping, LLC, come together to serve those most in need. We are making real progress on mental health wellness and we should continue to foster strong partnerships and collaborations that will make a great difference in the lives of many.” New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher said, “Growing a garden and working with plants provides many benefits to people such as physical activity, focusing on a task that provides purpose and accomplishment. The Department fully recognizes and supports diverse settings in which horticultural therapy is utilized and the important connection it has to our Jersey Grown plants, flowers, shrubs and other nursery products.” The Garden State is the first in the nation to designate the third week of March “Horticultural Therapy Week”. Horticultural Therapy is practiced through social, vocational and therapeutic programs and empowers individuals to achieve independence providing a wide range of benefits to people of all ages. Senator Bateman said, “In the years since I first sponsored the Bill for “Horticultural Therapy Week” to raise awareness, it is gratifying to see a collaborative effort (like this) emerge and the good it will do for the citizens of New Jersey.”

Co-owner Vernon Gholston, former NFL player with the New York Jets, said “Anew Wellness is excited to feature Horticultural Therapy and other innovative mental health treatment modalities that can be utilized preventatively to promote mental wellness, or as part of the treatment for individuals experiencing a mental health issues. We are committed to providing excellent care to individuals and families experiencing mental health issues as well as working with the community to increase mental health awareness and fight stigma. We believe prevention, early intervention and individualized treatment are the key to enhancing the mental wellness of the community as a whole.” Co-Owner Jerome Mitchell added, “Horticultural Therapy is a great way to meet the clients where they are at and allows for engagement and connection.”
