Overview:
The AHTA Board of Directors is excited to brin g members and the general public the second of three webinars in 2023! Whil e taking into consideration previously requested material, the focus of the June webinar will be specialized populations, including underserved indivi duals. Three speakers with experience in various settings will present info rmation regarding the populations they serve, impacts horticultural therapy /therapeutic horticulture has made and implications for furthering the HT m odality in these areas. The webinar will be Tuesday June 13th at 4:30 pm PS T/7:30 pm EST.

Debra Edwards, HTR, she / her / hers
Debra is a registered horticultural therapist. She received her horticultural therapy certificate from the Horticultural Thera py Institute and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Auburn Universit y. Debra has 15 years of experience in landscape design and maintenance and 9 years of experience in horticultural therapy programming. Populations sh e has served include adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities or dementia at adult day care campuses. Debra currently works as the Outdoor E ducator at the US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, teaching environmental education and team building to children at grade-sch ool levels.
Faryn-Beth Hart, HTR
Faryn Hart is a Registered Ho rticultural Therapist and Associate Social Worker living and gardening in t he Bay Area, California. Faryn practices with a liberation lens and has alw ays been drawn to working with marginalized or underserved communities.Fary n works as a Child and Family Therapist with system-impacted parents and ch ildren. Her horticultural projects have included facilitating groups at a residential eating disorder treatment center; working with housing insecure families in the garden in San Francisco; and her work with Insight Garden Program since 2016 connecting incarcerated individuals with their inner and outer gardens at San Quentin State Prison. Faryn is a co-facilitator and a dministrator of the California Horticultural Therapy Network bringing toget her horticultural therapists, students, allied professionals, and others to grow the profession.
Sara Rodriguez, LMFT
Sara is a lice nsed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in Southern California. She h as worked in the mental and behavioral health field for 19 years. Currently , Sara is a clinical therapist in a therapeutic horticulture program at a c ommunity mental health center. The population she serves includes individua ls experiencing moderate to severe symptoms of mental illness and impairmen ts as well as their family members. A portion of participants in the progra mming include community members who are experiencing homelessness and housi ng insecurity. Additionally, a significant portion of the population served are monolingual Spanish speakers. Sara also serves on the Board of Directo rs for AHTA to further grow, learn, serve and bolster the ability to addres s wellness through a therapeutic horticulture lens.
