Dr. Charlie Hall Dr. Charlie Hall grew up in the horticulture industry on a nursery in Western North Carolina. Although an economist by t raining, he is currently a Professor in the Department of Horticultural Sci ences at the Texas A&M University and holder of the Ellison Chair in In ternational Floriculture. His major areas of specialization include innovat ive management and marketing strategies, financial analysis and benchmarkin g, and the future of nursery and greenhouse crops. He will address how the horticulture industry can work with research, education, healthcare, touris m, finance and other facets within parts of our communities to promote the importance of horticulture to human health, well-being and quality of life. | |
Dr. Lucy Bradley Dr. Lucy Bradley is an urban pioneer, raising chickens, bees and a son in an edible landscape full of native plants. She is currently the Associate Department Head, Department Extension Leader, an d Consumer and Community Horticulture Specialist in the Department of Horti cultural Science at North Carolina State University. She will talk about h ow horticulture departments, botanic gardens, and the extension service can work with the community to provide research, education and outreach (inclu ding volunteers) to reach specific populations and increase the use of hort iculture as a therapeutic tool. | |
Dr. Paula Diane Relf Dr. Paula Diane Relf grew up in East Texas, an avid gardene r since childhood. She is currently Professor Emeritus after a distinguishe d career as a Professor and Extension Specialist at Virginia Tech Universit y. She was a founding member of what is now the American Horticultural Ther apy Association and established the International People Plant Council. She will moderate the session and explore collaborations that practitioners ca n make with each other, with industries, universities and other professiona ls to foster the use of horticulture as a therapeutic tool. |
