Ann Lane Mavromatis Scholarship
About the Award
Ann was the first major donor, through a bequest, to what was then called the NCTRH Fund. Ann organized the HT Program at the Rusk Institute in the early 1960’s.
In 1978, she developed the horticultural therapy training program at the New York Botanical Gardens, Bronx, NY, and lectured there for more than five years.
She served on the AHTA Board of Directors from 1979 - 1983.
The Ann Lane Mavromatis Scholarship
- Recognizes a student with a declared major in the field of Horticultural Therapy or related field with coursework supporting the field of Horticultural Therapy.
- Promotes the growth of professionalism in the field of horticultural therapy.
- Supports a student who advocates for the profession at their school or with a local, state, or national Horticultural Therapy organization.
- Provides financial support to student members of AHTA for academic achievement.
- The scholarship was established in 1987 in honor and recognition of Ann, designating AHTA as a beneficiary in her will.
Award Criteria
This $1000 scholarship is awarded to recognize academic achievement and to promote growth of professionalism in the field of Horticultural Therapy. The scholarship recipient’s registration fees for the annual meeting will be waived by the AHTA and she/he will be granted two nights lodging for the annual meeting.
The student who is awarded the scholarship shall have:
- Coursework in horticultural therapy including coursework required for professional registration.
- Membership in AHTA.
- A high level of academic achievement.
- Personal involvement in horticultural therapy through the contribution to the development of the horticultural therapy program at their college or university or through participation in extracurricular horticultural therapy activities with a local, state, or national Horticultural Therapy organization.
